Goblins!

After thinking about what I had written on my last blog post as well as having my research techniques pointed out to be far too vague I began researching how Goblins are depicted and how they move.

I've noticed they come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Certain goblin's skin colours closely resemble that of a Caucasian human whereas some are completely green or yellow.

A lot of depictions of Goblins are rather skinny yet at the same time have toned muscles like in ths example:

I also noticed that the vast majority of different depictions of Goblins don't have hair and if they do, they're often in rather strange styles. Here are some examples of World of Warcraft's depiction of Goblins and their hair styles:

As you can see, they often have a portion of their heads bald with things like sideburns or ponytails.

A lot of Goblins have long thin arms and short thin legs with large hands and feet but as for the height they can vary quite a lot ranging anywhere between two foot tall to around five foot. I've seen quite a few arguments online about a Goblin being taller than five or six foot being a Goblin or a Troll or a number of different green-skinned humanoids.

Whatever the size, colour or shape of any depiction of Goblin they all seem to have a similar personality, they tend to be sneaky, greedy and most of the time rather mean, even to each other. They're often depicted as unintelligent thieves with a weakness for shiny things such as jewelry and gemstones.

With this personality in mind I've seen quite a lot of movement animations which express this type of personality such as these examples:

The way they walk or creep isn't exactly seen as friendly or seem like they have particularly kind intentions.

Along with researching jobs, I'm going to attempt to create a walk or crawl cycle using a biped in 3DS Max for a Goblin and I'll be uploading a rendered video of it to my blog, primarily to get some practice for animating since that's what I'm leaning towards for my Final Project.

I feel like setting myself goals to do with things that interest me is better than just trying loads of random direnent things and pretty much doing nothing at all with any of them because I'm too worried I might pick the wrong thing. But, if nothing else, I'll at least know whether or not I really want to create, animate or create and animate a Goblin or anything.
